Chip-design startup Bolt Graphics is seeking roughly $100 million at a valuation of about $700 million, Reuters reported, citing three people familiar with the matter. The Sunnyvale, California, company is developing Zeus, a graphics processor for professional rendering and scientific simulation. The fundraising remains in progress and the target terms could change; CEO Darwesh Singh declined to discuss them but said the process was well under way.

Zeus is meant first for 3D artists, game developers and researchers, rather than the broad consumer-gaming market. In a rendering workflow, software traces how light moves through a digital scene; Bolt says its chip is designed to let creators preview and finish those images faster. Researchers would use the same platform for high-precision physics calculations, with PCIe cards, servers and cloud access planned.

That narrow start matters. Nvidia and AMD have concentrated much of their hardware spending on AI, while Bolt is betting that professional rendering, chip design and scientific computing still need dedicated high-precision performance. Reuters said the company intends to reach consumer gaming later, where supporting thousands of titles would require a much larger software effort.

The report follows a concrete but early hardware milestone. Bolt announced on October 13 that it had brought up a 12-nanometer TSMC test chip and opened a Taipei office to work with manufacturing partners. The test device runs electromagnetic-simulation and path-tracing functions in hardware, according to the company. It is not the commercial product: developer access is planned for early 2027, initial early-access hardware for late 2027 and volume production in 2028.

Reuters reported that Bolt has spent roughly six years developing its chips. That history, and the two-year path from test silicon to planned volume production, frame the financing: investors are being asked to back a specialized architecture before a commercial GPU ships. Reuters did not identify a lead investor, and the company has not announced a completed round.
