Six Samsung affiliates announced a combined $1 billion investment in Helix Digital Infrastructure, adding strategic backing to its business of financing and delivering the physical systems behind large AI deployments. Samsung Electronics is contributing $500 million, while Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance are providing the remainder, according to Samsung’s Sept. 29 announcement.
Helix is designed for hyperscale cloud operators that otherwise must coordinate a long chain of infrastructure providers. The company says it combines land, building shells, power generation, grid access, interconnections and fiber, giving a hyperscaler one counterparty for a project that could involve many developers, utilities and technology suppliers.
KKR launched Helix in June with more than $10 billion of long-term capital commitments from founding investors including the Kuwait Investment Authority, Nvidia and Vistra. Former Amazon Web Services CEO Adam Selipsky leads the company. Nvidia supports its technology roadmap, while Vistra is its preferred power provider.
The Samsung investment also creates a path to operating cooperation, though no contracts were disclosed. The participating affiliates span semiconductors, data-center cooling, engineering and construction, data-center operations and backup batteries. Samsung presented those capabilities as a basis for future work with Helix, rather than products or services already committed to a project.
Helix invests in, develops and manages data centers together with the power and connectivity needed to operate them. Neither its launch release nor Samsung’s investment announcement identifies a specific customer project or site, so the new capital currently supports the broader platform rather than a disclosed build for a named hyperscaler.
