SignSplit said Monday it secured a $400 million strategic seed commitment from W Group at a $1 billion valuation as the startup emerged from stealth. Founded in 2024, it is building a platform and rights layer that connects AI and robotics developers, researchers and media businesses with people and institutions willing to license data, work or likeness. The announced package combines capital with multiyear strategic resources; neither company disclosed how much is cash or when it will be provided.
Buyers start by specifying the human data or contribution they need. SignSplit creates a data or research pool, recruits people or institutions able to produce it, and manages consent, provenance, access terms and compensation. Forbes Italia reported that the requesting organization pays while contributors do not, making the model principally business-to-business even though individuals help create what is sold.
That is different from simply licensing a dataset already sitting on a server. A model developer could ask for a particular behavior from a defined population over several months, producing a longitudinal dataset around one assignment. SignSplit says its verification layer is designed to let downstream AI systems and other digital services retrieve the provenance, consent and rights attached to each contribution.
The $1 billion valuation was not based on current revenue. Forbes Italia reported that co-founder and CEO Alessandro Monterosso said the figure was negotiated around expectations for the technology, market opportunity and scalability. Neither the SignSplit announcement nor the Forbes Italia profile identified a SignSplit customer or disclosed its current sales.
SignSplit said the commitment will support technology development and global expansion, while Forbes Italia reported a focus on adding custom data and research pools. Monterosso said an AI lab building the same capability internally would have to handle contributor recruitment, payments, consent, provenance and legal infrastructure across multiple jurisdictions. That bundled workflow is the service SignSplit offers.
