Beacon Holdings announced a $50 million investment from CPP Investments on November 5, backing software acquisitions and a shared AI engineering team. The investment is part of a broader expansion that has taken Beacon’s Series C to $425 million, BetaKit reported.
The Toronto company says it owns 45 software businesses serving customers in recreation, utilities, education and manufacturing. It keeps acquired businesses for the long term and supplies central engineering and operating teams, using those vendors’ customer relationships to sell new AI products.
Beacon announced the original $225 million Series C on June 9, led by General Catalyst and HarbourVest. At the time, it said it was acquiring roughly one business a week.
Beacon bought AI reliability startup Haize Labs in September to form an applied AI research group led by Haize co-founder Leonard Tang. Its planned work includes technology that multiple portfolio companies can reuse and testing AI agents before and after deployment.
An undated case study on Beacon’s website describes System Dynamics Corp’s sale of AI bank-reconciliation software to a Caribbean gas and utilities customer. The customer subscribed for several years, with fees partly dependent on results, according to Beacon. SDC had served it for 40 years before winning the AI project within 90 days of acquisition.
