Fortaegis builds chips and software that help governments and businesses secure communications between machines, from data-center servers to industrial equipment. The Dutch company announced a $50 million Series A on September 13 to expand commercial production of its security platform.

Its approach starts with the tiny manufacturing variations that make each chip physically unique. Research partner and investor TNO says Fortaegis uses that physical fingerprint as a foundation for security, avoiding databases of stored encryption keys and establishing connections without exchanging public keys. TNO describes applications including drone communications, AI workloads and energy networks; its claims about quantum resistance describe the architecture’s intended protection.

For an operator, deployment can mean installing equipment in a server rack or field system, or embedding the technology directly into a device. Fortaegis says each enabled system becomes a node on its Silicon Platform. Software then coordinates identities, security policies and connections across those nodes, giving otherwise separate machines a shared framework for deciding how to communicate securely.

The commercial work begins before volume hardware orders. Fortaegis says it works with more than 25 enterprises and governments, with customer-funded engineering programs progressing through technical testing toward product qualification and production deployment. That describes a business moving through customer development projects, rather than establishing that every engagement has become a production installation.

Returning investor Serendipity Capital led the round, with participants including TEL Venture Capital, TNO, Prodrive Technologies and NP-Hard Ventures. Fortaegis says the proceeds will expand production of its FPGA products, advance its ASIC roadmap and add engineering and commercial capacity.

Prodrive provides part of the manufacturing route. Its May partnership agreement covers engineering, system integration, supply-chain management and manufacturing, making it an industrial partner as well as an investor. The next business test is whether Fortaegis can turn customer-specific engineering work into repeatable deployments across the different equipment its platform is designed to connect.
