GeneMind, which makes gene-sequencing instruments for research laboratories and registered diagnostic models for medical institutions, announced completion of a nearly 600 million yuan Series D transaction on September 14. The company says the financing will support technology development, manufacturing and delivery, and overseas expansion.

Its desktop FASTASeq 300 illustrates the laboratory workflow. Users prepare sequencing libraries—the material arranged for the instrument to read—then load them into lanes on a flow cell, automatically or manually. Preconfigured reagent cartridges support sequencing, with different flow cells and read lengths accommodating different experiments. GeneMind expressly labels this model for research use only, excluding diagnostic and clinical procedures. The separate FASTASeq 300 Dx has Chinese Class III medical-device registration, according to the financing announcement.

The transaction includes both new capital and shareholder liquidity. An August 27 filing by shareholder Sansure disclosed 461.8 million yuan of planned primary investment and 125.7 million yuan of existing-share transfers. The primary component equates to about $68.9 million using Investing.com’s September 14 yuan-dollar rate; the combined package should not be counted entirely as money entering GeneMind. The completion announcement names Shanghai International Group Investment, Shenzhen Capital Group, Shengwei Rongquan Fund and Guoxin Fund as joint leads.

GeneMind’s business spans instrument sales and the reagents used with them, according to industry publication Chem17. Its larger SURFSeq 5000 supports whole-genome, targeted, RNA and other sequencing applications. Manufacturer documentation describes fluorescence detection to read sequencing signals and configurations using one or two flow cells. Those options give laboratories different ways to match a run to the amount and type of data their work requires.

The company says it delivered its 1,000th sequencer to Shenzhen Bay Laboratory in March and installed a SURFSeq 5000 at Norwegian biotechnology company Nocteva in August. It also says its instruments and solutions have served more than 60 countries and regions. These deployments place its equipment in both research institutions and biotechnology businesses, extending the commercial opportunity beyond medical testing.

GeneMind is also expanding the tools around sequencing, including nucleic-acid fragment analyzers and spatial-omics chips. That broadens the range of laboratory work it can support, while the announced funding also targets international delivery. The business question is whether GeneMind can turn those overseas installations into broader adoption of its instruments and accompanying reagents.
