Heron Power has secured a $60 million credit facility as it prepares to manufacture equipment that changes how large electricity users connect to the grid. The California company builds power-conversion hardware for data centers, solar installations and battery storage, replacing combinations of conventional electrical equipment with a modular, software-controlled system.

For a data-center developer, the job is to turn incoming grid electricity into power that computing racks can use. Heron's data-center version of Heron Link converts medium-voltage alternating current into 800-volt direct current. Integrated short-duration energy storage is intended to smooth fluctuations and bridge brief interruptions. The company presents it as a way to combine functions otherwise spread across transformers, backup-power equipment and distribution systems; its efficiency and space-saving figures are vendor claims.

Solar and battery projects need a different version of the same conversion job. Panels and batteries supply direct current, while the grid operates on alternating current. Heron's solar-and-storage product combines an inverter with a solid-state transformer in a five-megawatt unit. Its controls are designed to help regulate voltage and frequency, while modular redundancy and a service program address the maintenance demands of equipment expected to operate for many years.

That makes Heron an equipment-and-service supplier to energy and infrastructure developers, not an electricity retailer or an AI computing provider. Product specifications describe long-term parts and service coverage alongside monitoring tools. The company says it has identified more than 40 gigawatts of customer interest, a pipeline measure that should not be confused with shipped equipment or firm revenue.

J.P. Morgan and TriplePoint Capital provided the credit facility, announced September 10 and separately reported by FinSMEs. It follows Heron's $140 million Series B in February; the new $60 million is debt capacity, not another equity round or a statement that the entire facility has been drawn. Founder Drew Baglino's company is converting a Morgan Hill building into a factory, with mass production targeted for late 2027. Former Tesla CFO Zach Kirkhorn is joining the board.

The next test is industrial execution. A developer planning a data center or energy project needs equipment that arrives on schedule, fits the rest of the electrical system and can be maintained after installation. Heron's opportunity is to make advanced power conversion a repeatable manufactured product, with a dependable service operation behind it, rather than simply demonstrate a better-performing prototype.
