Poseidon Aerospace has reportedly closed a $60 million Series A for uncrewed cargo aircraft, according to TechCrunch's September 8 interview with chief executive David Zagaynov. The company is developing planes for regional freight and defense logistics, with a commercial plan to operate its own air-cargo service. Its first full-size Egret test flight is targeted for the end of 2026.

The practical job is moving a pallet between places that do not justify a large cargo jet. Egret's design has loading doors at the nose and rear, a deployable ramp and a flat floor accessible to a forklift. Poseidon specifies a 4,000-pound payload and operations from paved or unpaved runways. Those are design specifications for an aircraft under development, not a record of regular deliveries already completed.

Poseidon is pairing that land-based aircraft with Heron, a seaplane intended for offshore work. The company describes missions such as moving cargo from shore to a platform or from a ship to land without an onboard pilot. Both designs use combustion engines and fixed wings. Their proposed novelty lies in remote operation and a cargo-focused airframe, rather than a new battery, hydrogen power system or vertical-takeoff arrangement.

The commercial offering is aimed at regional freight networks, while the seaplane would reach locations without a runway. Removing the cockpit leaves more of the airframe available for freight; compatibility with existing runways, facilities and fueling equipment is another part of the company's pitch. Claims of lower fuel use, lower lifetime costs and higher utilization remain targets. They do not yet establish what a customer would pay per delivery or how reliably a fleet would run.

TechCrunch reports that TQ Ventures led the Series A, joined by Hanwha Asset Management, G Squared and JAWS, alongside returning investors. The round follows an $11 million seed financing announced in 2025.

The next step is more than showing that an aircraft can fly once. A freight carrier has to load, dispatch, land and turn an aircraft around predictably across a network. Egret's full-size testing will begin to show whether the cargo doors, payload design and remote-operation concept work together. The business becomes useful to shippers when that combination supports a dependable schedule, not merely an impressive prototype.
